Fort Santiago

Santa Clara Street; open daily at 8am

Considered as one of the oldest stone fortresses in the Philippines, the fort was built in the 1500s during the the Spanish colonial period. Fort Santiago is rich in history, as national hero Jose Rizal was imprisoned here, and in World War II was seized by the Japanese Imperial Army.
