Old Churches

Of the eight churches that were located within its walls, only two remained:

San Agustin Church (General Luna Street): the oldest building in Manila completed in 1607, and declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage site in 1993; inside the church is the San Agustin Museum

Manila Metropolitan Cathedral-Basilica (Cabildo cor. Beaterio Streets): commonly known as Manila Cathedral, this is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila; it honors the Blessed Virgin Mary as Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, the Principal Patroness of the Philippines.
