Chapel of the Arcangels Now Open at Opus Mall
Human life from its beginning until death is surrounded by angels’ watchful care and intercession. “Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life.” This is given light and elaborated on in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, (CCC 336). Suffice it to say that the angels play an important role in salvation history and our life of faith.
Among the angels, three are referred to as the Archangels who occupy the highest domains of this angelic hierarchy. Though they have tasks similar to those of the common angels, they have been given specific tasks and duties that suggest their importance. In general, the tasks of these Archangels include contemplation of God, communication of His Will to man in various ways, inspiration for human beings, and catalysts of divine grace for them. All three names of the Archangels end with the word “El”, which means “God”. “Mica-el” means “who is like God.” “Gabri-el” means “God is strong.” “Rapha-el” means “God heals.” God is inscribed in their names, in their nature. Their true nature exists for God and is oriented to God alone.
Thus, Robinsons Land through the guidance of Fr. Ricky Montanez, former parish priest of San Roque Parish in Bagumbayan, Quezon City and Fr. Ron Roberto, Director of the Diocesan Ministry for Liturgical Affairs (DMLA), Diocese of Cubao has chosen to name the Opus chapel in honour of these heavenly messengers. This is a reminder that we too can and should be God’s messengers, like Gabriel. We are to be bringers of God’s consolation and concern to our wearied brothers and sisters in trying times, like Raphael. Finally, like Michael, we are called to emulate him in fighting for the good (and defending the truth) and in ensuring that God reigns in every heart of all believers.
The Chapel of the Archangels located at the 6th level of Opus is under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cubao and under the care of San Roque Parish, Bagumbayan Quezon City. Father Ricky Montanez and Father Ron Roberto, in response to the duty of their respective offices have closely monitored the chapel’s development, ensuring everything from the placement of the tabernacle to the positioning of the statues of the saints, the archangels and the other important fixtures of the chapel. This Chapel has also been granted permission by his Most Reverend Honesto F. Ongtioco, D.D. Bishop of Cubao, to keep a tabernacle with the Blessed Sacrament.
As it has a seating capacity of around 250-300 persons, there is an outside seating provision for other mass attendees in the garden area. Daily masses will be celebrated from Monday to Saturday at 12:15 PM and a vigil mass (anticipated mass) at 6:00 PM on Saturdays. There will be four (4) masses at 11 AM, 12:30 PM, 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM on Sundays. The Chapel of the Archangels was blessed by Bishop Honesto “Nes” Ongtioco himself last July 10, 2024.
