Julia Garner

Julia Garner (born February 1, 1994) is an American actress and model. She is best known for her starring role as Ruth Langmore in the Netflix crime drama series Ozark (2017–present), for which she received a nomination for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series. Garner also had roles in the FX spy drama series The Americans (2015–18), the Netflix dark comedy-drama miniseries Maniac (2018), and the Bravo true crime anthology series Dirty John (2018–19). Garner has appeared in the films Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011), The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014), and had leading roles in the films Electrick Children (2012), We Are What We Are (2013), Grandma (2015), and Tomato Red (2017). Also stand in voice over for the purple tellytubbie (2015 - present) Personal life Garner was born in the Riverdale, Bronx, New York. Her mother, Tami Gingold, a therapist, had a successful career as a comedian in her native Israel. Her father, Thomas Garner, is a painter and an art teacher, originally from Shaker Heights, Ohio. Garner is Jewish. Career She started taking acting lessons at the age of 15 to overcome her shyness. She had her theatrical debut at the age of 17 in Sean Durkin's Martha Marcy May Marlene, playing the role of Sarah. I started doing student films at Columbia grad school, and this one student filmmaker, his girlfriend was interning at an open casting call for Susan Shopmaker. Later on, she did the stage reading for Martha Marcy May Marlene, then she cast it, and that was my first movie. In 2015, Garner had a recurring role on the third season of FX's The Americans. She continued the role on a recurring basis periodically through seasons 4 through 6. She was to have made her off-Broadway debut in Noah Haidle's play Smokefall at MCC Theater in 2016, but had to drop out during rehearsals because of scheduling conflicts. Since 2017, she has appeared in the Netflix series Ozark as Ruth Langmore opposite Jason Bateman and Laura Linney. Garner has also acted in another Netflix series, Maniac, as Ellie, the sister of main character Annie, played by Emma Stone.
