Drama
In 2000, after a peace agreement between the Philippine government and the MNLF, some disillusioned members formed the Abu Sayyaf Group. On March 20, Abu Sayyaf rebels kidnapped Fr. Rhoel Gallardo and others in Basilan, including students and teachers. They endured 44 days of abuse at the hands of leaders Khadaffy Janjalani and Abu Sabaya. Despite the violence, Fr. Gallardo kept his faith and vowed to protect the captives. As the rebels grew more violent, the military launched an attack to rescue the hostages, leading to a fierce battle, where Fr. Gallardo tried to save a young boy.
