Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, and Mark Hamill Lead the Star-Studded Voice Cast of DreamWorks’ “The Wild Robot”
The highly anticipated adaptation of the #1 New York Times bestselling novel, The Wild Robot, is finally here, and DreamWorks Animation has assembled an incredible voice cast to bring this touching story to life. Prepare to meet an extraordinary cast of characters in The Wild Robot, as Academy Award winners, Golden Globe nominees, and pop-culture legends lend their voices to this magical tale.
Lupita Nyong’o as Roz, the Heart of the Story
Academy Award® winner Lupita Nyong’o steps into the role of Rozzum 7134, or simply “Roz,” a state-of-the-art robot who finds herself stranded on a mysterious island. As Roz learns to adapt to her unfamiliar surroundings, she discovers a purpose greater than herself when she stumbles upon a fragile goose egg. Describing her experience, Nyong’o shares, “There was a level of collaboration that left me feeling inspired every time I left the recording booth,” Nyong’o says. “Chris Sanders and Jeff Hermann are so collaborative. Chris is the kind of director who doesn’t let his ego get in the way. Whenever I got into the booth and had questions or was debating him on something, he was ready for that. The whole team behind this project was so adaptable and collaborative. It felt like we were all getting our hands in the dough, and we were going to bake this cake together. Every time I left the booth, I felt empowered, highly valued and definitely inspired by the work that we’d done.”
Kit Connor Takes Flight as Brightbill
Kit Connor (Heartstopper, Rocketman) brings his heartfelt touch to Brightbill, the brave young gosling raised by Roz. Director Chris Sanders praised Connor’s ability to breathe life into the character, stating, “During our first recording session, I was amazed by Kit’s ability to infuse genuine emotion into Brightbill’s voice,” Sanders says. “He brought the character to life in a remarkably authentic way, really making Brightbill come alive on screen. Kit’s performance gave our animators a rich foundation to explore the nuances of Brightbill’s relationship with Roz far beyond our initial expectations.”
Pedro Pascal Embraces His Wild Side as Fink
Making his animated feature debut, Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us, The Mandalorian) takes on the role of the crafty red fox, Fink. Pascal was encouraged to find his unique voice, resulting in an unforgettable performance. “Initially, I approached it with ideas of sounding cool and funny, like how you’d imagine a fox would be,” Pascal says. “But Chris helped me move away from those artificial ideas and encouraged me to embrace my own sense of humor, color and ability to be ridiculous. He gave me permission to take big swings and go for it, which was liberating.”
Catherine O’Hara Lends Wisdom as Pinktail
Catherine O’Hara, known for her Emmy-winning role in Schitt’s Creek, lends her voice to the wise opossum Pinktail. As Roz’s first friend on the island, Pinktail offers guidance and humor. “Pinktail won’t let Roz get away without embracing motherhood and teaches her the role every day,” O’Hara says. “Pinktail’s strength is in her innate mothering instincts, approaching the role with a matter-of-fact attitude while giving Roz the space to learn through experience, intervening only when needed. Pinktail mothers with a sense of humor, which is a quality my own mother, who raised seven of us, believed to be essential.”
Mark Hamill Roars as the Grizzly Bear Thorn
Legendary actor Mark Hamill (Star Wars franchise) takes on the role of the formidable grizzly bear, Thorn. Hamill’s dedication to the character is clear. “I read the entire book, all 279 pages, and then studied the script, which captured the essence of the story while allowing for adaptation to the screen,” Hamill says. “The advantage was having several sequences finished, which gave me a visual sense of the movie’s direction.”
More Stellar Voices in “The Wild Robot“
Joining this already star-studded cast are Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once) as the intriguing robot Vontra, and Bill Nighy (Love Actually) as the wise goose Longneck. With Emmy winners like Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows) and Ving Rhames (Mission: Impossible series) also contributing their voices, this animated adventure is set to captivate audiences of all ages.
