About the Event
In its commitment in serving the college and the people, UP Aggregates, Incorporated continues upholding its founding principles, constantly striving towards honor and excellence in its objectives to promote individuality, leadership, service, and academic integrity. Over 31 years since its inception, it has been home to students who excel in their academics as well as in their respective fields of interest. It has produced alumni who passionately serve their communities and who further educate themselves and their fellowmen for the betterment of nation-building. It has organized events which contribute to the advance not only of engineering in academics but also of social consciousness in engineering practice.
In its 31st year, it aims to further its involvement in the shaping of minds through various activities and events. Among these is the 11th Annual Civil Engineering Talk, also known as the CE Talk – an annual colloquium among students and professionals in the engineering industry. For 10 years, it has tackled timely issues, spanning 6 major fields of study in Civil Engineering, namely, Water Resources Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering and Management, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental and Energy Engineering, and Transportation Engineering. It bridges the gap between engineering study, usually confined within the walls of the classroom, and practice, as it is done in the field. It enriches the experience of both students and professionals as they get to exchange insights which could better address prevailing issues in the industry.
Environmental and Energy Engineering will be the focus of this year’s CE Talk, entitled “SYNTHESIS: Restorative and Sustainable Growth in the Philippines through Advancements in Environmental Engineering”. Professionals from the industry, in the academe and in the local administration are invited to shed light on various dimensions of this increasingly important field of application. Speakers include Mr. Ebinezer Florano of the National College of Public Administration and Governance, to discuss the policies and regulations currently being implemented in the country with regards to the environment, Ms. Anna Maria Gonzales, to emphasize the promotion of sustainability in the design of green buildings and cities, and Mr. Mario Marasigan of the Department of Energy, to deliver a talk on the current state of Hydroelectric Energy in the Philippines.
Around 2,400 civil engineering students from various schools across NCR, Luzon and as far as Visayas are expected to participate. Energy and environmental engineering enthusiasts and professionals are also encouraged to participate in the event. Through this event, we aspire to gather the brilliant young minds in the industry to come up and strive in achieving sustainable development and advancement in the field of Environmental and Energy Engineering.
