My first conversation with Paolo Bernabe wasn't about their family's and (Bacolod's) pride, chicken inasal. It was in fact, about frozen yogurt. But upon drifting the topic from dessert to food, I then discovered that it's his family I have to thank for giving me my first taste of the Bacolod chicken inasal in Manila.

With Christmas being the biggest annual holiday in the country, it actually comes as no surprise that the Yuletide season brings out a lighter and happier side to just about everybody. It is easily evident in the colorful decorations displayed in the malls; to the slight chill in the evening air; and, of course, to the animated conversations that can be heard from practically every street corner. Many of us also see Christmas as the best time to have reunions with family and friends, and to practice generosity by offering help to those who are less fortunate.

In my line of work ('paid hobby,' my friends correct me), days come when I get to eat an entire ecosystem. No kidding. As a matter of fact, just last week, I recall eating: two types of beef, chicken cooked in three ways (grilled, roasted, and baked), pork hamonado, pork dinuguan, chicharon, burger, pizza, shrimps, crabs, tuna, dory, salmon, leche flan, black forest cake, and salad - all in one day!

TCB, the cafe formerly known as The Coffee Beanery, not only redesigned its name and logo just for pizazz. But yes, the upgrade is definitely warm and modern. To coincide the new logo, they have also updated their menu, jazzing up the Filipino appeal with familiar flavors.

Ninyo Fusion Cuisine

A fragile-looking dish was brought out of the kitchen. The waiter, who must've went through the task of carrying the platter countless times already, still was heedful of his every step towards our table. How could one go hurriedly while carrying a plate of four golf ball sized croquettes with wafer-like swirls sticking out on top? The croquettes lying variably on what looked like a brittle grass of green shoestring potatoes sure made it even harder.

C2 Classic Cuisine

Add "crispy" to any of my favorite Filipino food, and I am sold. The sight of crispy pata and bagnet is just begging for a heaping of white rice. Same can be said with leftover adobo that has been shredded and re-fried to crunchy perfection. So it was an easy feat for C2 Classic Cuisine to win me over with their Crispy Ribs Sinigang (P350), a masterpiece of deep-fried beefy goodness served with cheek-pinching sour broth. It is the dish I use to introduce C2 to my friends and relatives who haven't tried the restaurant. Of course, there are more exciting things in store for you at C2, from beverages right down to their dessert.

Gotta Be At Ponzo's

Never heard of Ponzo's, so I wanted a more compelling reason why we should dine there. Upon telling me that they have delicious homemade thin crust pizzas (my weakness), I gave the thumbs up and we made our way to Magallanes Village.
